Directions: Junior’s friend, Gordy, believes that you have to read a book three times before you
can really know it. He rationalizes that the first time you read a book, you are just getting to
know the plot, or the story. The second time you read a book, you read it for its history. You are
trying to understand the words and their meanings or how they were used in the time period.
He never gets around to explaining why it is important to read a book for the third time. Maybe
this is the time that you really get to know the characters.

Think about something that you enjoy doing over and over again. Maybe, like Gordy, you have
read the same book more than once. Or maybe you like to do something else like play the same
video games, watch the same movies or TV shows, or bake the same cakes. In the spaces below,
talk about what you like to do, why you like to do it, and how doing it so many times makes a
difference to you.
