Foundations of Animation
COURSE FEE: The total cost of this course is $20.00. Fees are due AS soon as possible.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course prepares students to use artistic and technological foundations to create animations. The basic principles of digital animation are reviewed, including character development and story conception through production. Students learn the technical language used in the animation industry and basic animation methods. They will also learn techniques about various ways to plan, create, and prepare for animation in pre-production, production and post-production
COURSE OBJECTIVE: Foundations of Animation teaches students how to model, animate and render with a focus on establishing a working knowledge of animation tools and techniques. The course builds a foundation for developing 3-D computer graphic, animation, modeling, deformations and character animation. Students create and modify movies using objects, graphics, sound, animation, and special effects.
PREREQUISITE: Integrated Business Applications 1
- SAFETY AND ETHICS2. Describe the threat of viruses to a computer network, methods of avoiding attacks, and options in dealing with virus attacks.4. Explain the consequences of illegal, social, and unethical uses of information technologies, e.g., piracy; illegal downloading; licensing infringement; and inappropriate uses of software, hardware, and mobile devices.6. Discuss computer crimes, terms of use, and legal issues such as copyright laws, fair use laws, and ethics pertaining to scanned and downloaded clip art images, photographs, documents, video, recorded sounds and music, trademarks, and other elements for use in Web publications.

District policy will be enforced as outlined in your student handbooks. This includes but is not limited to the proper usage of the internet. It is the responsibility of the parents and students to become familiar with these rules. In addition to the above, all students will be asked to adhere to all of the following course expectations:
Be Prepared
- Get out your pencil, pen, and paper before class begins.
- Put all other materials including backpacks and purses under your desk.
- Follow all teacher provided directions to ensure assignments are completed successfully and to ensure your safe use of computer equipment.
Be Respectful
- Please do not interrupt or disrupt other students learning opportunities.
- Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Be On Task
- Plan to spend class time on class work for this class and be on task for the entire class period.
- Please do not leave your seat until the teacher has given you permission or tells you that class has been dismissed.
- Please adhere to districts policy in regards to safe internet practices.
Consequences
Students will be given a daily Employability Standard Grade. Students will start with 10 points. Each warning results in a point deduction/ point being taken away. A student receiving 4 warnings will be sent to the office and a phone call will be made to the students’ parents/guardian. Repetitive misbehavior will result in a meeting with the students’ parents/guardian and possible suspension.
GRADING POLICY:
Over the course of this school year you will be assigned both class assignments and class projects. The expectation for the completion of these assignments is to work on and complete these assignments during class; however if an assignment is not completed during class time it will then become your responsibility to complete outside of class.
LATE/ MISSING ASSIGNMENTS:
Late assignments are required to be turned in within 7 calendar days from the initial assignment due date. If you are unable to submit an assignment within 7 calendar days you will receive a 10% deduction in final grading due to late submittal. All late work must be turned in by the following dates to be included in the current semester grades:
- October 11, 2016
- January 3, 2016
- March 10, 2017
- May 19, 2017
Should an assignment be submitted after these dates the assignment will remain a zero in Power School unless other arrangements have been made in advance with me.
Parents: Should your student have more than 3 missing assignments within a 3-week period a student progress report will be sent to you. However, grades and current assignments with due dates can be viewed in both your student’s Canvas accounts (assignments and due dates) and Power School (assignment due dates and grades).

Class Projects:
Class projects typically cover 2 or more of the above course standards and will be graded with a rubric that outlines the requirements and point value for the completion of each project requirement.
Classwork:
Class work typically covers individual topics on any of the above standards. These assignments are expected to be turned in during the next class meeting time. In this class assignments are typically turned in digitally and can be turned in to our course assignment site for Canvas:

Tests/ Quizzes:
Students will be tested at the end of each unit or chapter over the content for that particular unit. (Please review the above course standards for unit descriptions)
- Chapter tests consist of problems, matching, vocabulary, true/false, and multiple choice questions.
- The time required to complete a chapter test is usually 30 -40 minutes. Tests will be completed during the allotted time only (unless special provisions have been made in advance).
- Test will be returned to students for review and then filed by the teacher.
- If a student misses a test, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher to make up the test as soon as possible after returning to school. A fair and reasonable amount of time will be made to accommodate students with lengthy absences.

One of the goals of this course is to help all students find success in this course. Your instructor will make arrangements to be available before or after school to provide tutoring should it be required, needed, or requested.
FIRST CLASS ASSIGNMENT:
Students: Please read and review this Syllabus, Health form, Class Contact Form, Sign out Card, and the NCCC Handbook. If your documents are returned by the next class session you will receive 100 points towards an Assignment grade. 5 points will be deducted for each day that the signature page is late.
