English 1301

English 1301 is the intensive study of and practice in writing processes, from invention and researching to drafting, revising, and editing, both individually and collaboratively with an emphasis on effective rhetorical choices, including audience, purpose, arrangement, and style. We will focus on writing the academic essay as a vehicle for learning, communicating, and critical analysis. Consequently, the class may utilize discussions of complex content that may require you to engage with emotionally and intellectually challenging material while remaining objective and open to multiple viewpoints, even dissenting viewpoints.

Because this is a dual credit course, we will also meet the requirements of English III. English III will cover reading, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening skills are taught through studying vocabulary, reviewing grammar principles,
writing compositions and analyzing American literature. The American literature for this course includes poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and nonfiction.
