Course Syllabus
WELCOME
to Student Leadership
As you have probably figured out, you will have a sub for the first 6 weeks while I am home with my baby. I might pop in a few times, just to meet you and to see how things are going. For now, I am writing this to get you started with a few things that I will be expecting/wanting from you in your time with me. Ms. Taylor should be able to answer any questions that you may have but if you still need any help, you are more than welcome to email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. My email is khancock@millsapisd.net.
To start, you will need to get a few materials for my class.
- A calendar/agenda
- A spiral notebook or composition notebook
- A folder or small binder
- Pens/pencils
I will explain what you will need these for throughout this welcome note.
I do have a few expectations/rules for all of you.
- I don’t plan on taking up your phones but I do expect you to work while you are in class. If they become a distraction, then we will begin putting them on my desk at the beginning of every class. PLEASE don’t make me do this.
- I expect you to work in class. I have been told that this is the class you get to sleep in, well that is no longer the case. If you are caught sleeping then it will take off from your participation grade (yes, I do have one of those) and then it will turn into referrals to the office. You have something you can always be working on, whether that be the assignment given, the project that you will have this 6 weeks or work from another class. I promise you can find something.
- Respect is a huge thing for this class. So please respect your peers, respect the teachers that you will have and respect yourself.
- I want you to enjoy your time in school. Make this fun, don’t make this class hard, because I promise that it isn’t. Come to me if you need anything.
Grades.
Yes, we have to talk about grades!! Those materials that I’m asking you to get, this is where those come in.
- You will need to keep a calendar/agenda. This will be a weekly grade. It is important that you stay on top of all the homework and activities that you have at school and even at home. Every week your calendar/agenda will be checked to make sure that you are putting your homework and activities in it. I expected to see 5-8 different things wrote for each week. You will turn this in online, in Canvas.
- Self-care is something that is super important to me. You will use the spiral note book or composition notebook 1 time a week to write about whatever you want. It could be about how you feel today, how’s life going, what’s going on at home, the topics are endless. You will need to write at least 1 page in your spiral or composition 1 time a week. No one will be reading this, I will just be checking to see that it is complete each week. You will show this to Ms. Taylor every Monday.
- You will have a project every six weeks that you are in my class. I will be providing you with the information for this assignment on a different paper. This project is a TEST GRADE, so take it seriously. Look at the project handout for the due dates on this.
4. There will be weekly curriculum, the assignment that goes along with it will also be a grade.
