GRADE DETERMINATION:
Class and Lab Work – 50%
Tests – 50%
Typically, there will be 8 Daily Grades and 2 Tests Grades. This means each test is worth 25% of your overall grade.
Late Work:
Students will have until the next class day to turn in any late assignments (example: an assignment that is due 2nd period is not turned in; every 24 hours is a late penalty, within the first 24 hours the penalty is 10%, the second 24 hours is 20%, and the third is 30% off the grade that would have been earned. If the assignment is 2 days late, and you earn an 85, your grade would be a 68.
Make-up Work:
Students will have one class day for each day missed plus one additional class day. Example: If a student is absent on Monday, he/she will have until Wednesday to get their missing work and then must have it turned in by Friday. If class is missed because of a medical/family emergency or extracurricular activity, students must take the initiative to get information about assignments missed. It is not my job to get you your assignments.
Retake policy:
Opportunity for retakes for tests and assignments will be given for every failing assignment. An alternative assignment will be given in place of the original assignment, typically an essay or short answer type assignment.
Academic Integrity:
Cheating will NOT be tolerated! Students participating in academic dishonesty will immediately receive a zero for the assignment and will not be allowed to make up the work. Cheating includes sharing answers and plagiarism and is overall determined by the teacher.
CLASSROOM RULES:
- Students are expected to maintain a professional attitude and conduct while in class and on campus
- Be Ready (have materials ready to work before the tardy bell rings)
- Be Respectful (treat others and their belongings better than you want to be treated)
- Be Responsible (take ownership of your actions)
- Follow directions the first time & work during all work times
- No tobacco products or anything that resembles them
- Do not leave the classroom without permission
- Use professional, respectful language and tone when conversing with others
- Cell phones and headphones may be used only with teacher permission and at a low volume, phones will be put away during class time. Emergency calls can be placed to/at the office.
- Follow other posted classroom and safety guidelines as well as the MHS student code of conduct
- Students will be expected to follow MHS dress code
PROFESSIONALISM: This class is designed for two distinct purposes: to teach students basic agricultural principles and practices, as well as prepare them for the “real world.” In this perspective, it is paramount that students understand the importance of professionalism in the classroom and workplace. Students are expected to follow MHS dress code. There will also be times (i.e. during labs and when working with animals and in the shop) when students will be required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
CONSEQUENCES:
- Written/verbal warning
- Email/phone call to parents
- Referral to office
- Major infraction (for example fighting or destruction of property) will result in an immediate referral and removal from the Agricultural Science Center.
* All other matters will be handled according to the student handbook.
