Spanish I - Texas Auténtico 1
Classroom Information & Expectations
Supplies and Expectations:
Spanish I students will need a large spiral notebook that is used ONLY for Spanish and a binder.
All students will be expected to bring their Chromebook, a pencil, highlighter/marker, EXPO markers, and their Spanish notebook to class every day. Students will use each of these materials to create an individual, irreplaceable resource for learning and using Spanish.
I recommend that the student also have a Spanish English dictionary.
It is not acceptable to eat breakfast or lunch during class time.
Students must check the SAVVAS and CANVAS virtual platforms to confirm that they have completed their daily assignments.
Grading Policy:
Learning Spanish requires students to commit to participating in class. Without daily participation, additional languages cannot be learned. As a result, students will receive daily in class assignment grades, as well as a participation grade for attempting to utilize the language during class time.
Major Grades (50%)
- Vocabulary Quizzes
- Projects
- Unit Assessments
- Speaking Exams
Minor Grades: (50%)
- Daily Participation*
- Notebook
- Classwork.
- Regular online homework.
Late work:
An assignment is considered late when a student is NOT absent on the due date of an assignment but fails to turn in the assignment on the due date. The following guidelines will be invoked when a student turns in a late assignment.
- A student cannot correct late work for an enhanced grade.
- Late work will only be accepted up to 3 days after the assignment was initially due.
- If an assignment is not turned in after the 3rd day, this will be considered a student discipline concern and will be handled as such.
- Each day an assignment is late, ten points will be deducted from the overall grade.
o Day 1 Late – highest grade a student can earn is 90%.
o Day 2 Late - highest grade a student can earn is 80%.
o Day 3 Late - highest grade a student can earn is 70%.
Online assignments are always due on the established date, regardless of whether the student is present in class. However, the student may have additional time if the student was absent from the class where I taught the lesson on which that assignment was based.

(“¿Puedo ir al baño?”) (“¿Puedo ir a la oficina?”) (“¿Puedo ir al pasillo?”) If you need help. (“Tengo una pregunta”, “Necesito ayuda”) (“¿Qué significa…?”) (“¿Cómo se dice…?”) (…)

Translation Devices:
Students ARE NOT allowed to use Google Translate or any other form of online or phone-app translation while completing their work for Spanish. If a student is struggling to complete an assignment, they should turn to their notebook, online links, or the resources we have available in the classroom for help. Tutorials in the morning or Bulldog Business are great times for students to ask for help! No credit will be given for assignments that have been translated online.
Cell phones and electronic devices
Students must put their phones in airplane mode before class starts, phones must be turned off and placed in the holder provided. Apple watches and similar electronic devices must be turned off and, in the holder, as well.
Punctuality
It is a fundamental part of a student's academic work and discipline. Students must be in the classroom at the appropriate time per the handbook; when eating breakfast in the cafeteria, they must finish their breakfast in the cafeteria. Therefore, breakfast is not allowed in the classroom during instructional time.
